About
Preparing Future Leaders in Humanitarian Action:
The Humanitarian Internship Program (HIP) was founded by George Washington University President Ellen M. Granberg and is jointly administered by the Office of the President and the Center for Career Services. Launched to expand GW’s role in global engagement and humanitarian impact, HIP reflects the university’s commitment to experiential learning, public service, and career development. Through this initiative, GW aims to advance its role as a global convener of emerging humanitarian changemakers, equipping students with the tools, networks, and experience to contribute meaningfully to humanitarian efforts worldwide.
HIP is a 10-week paid summer internship program open to undergraduate and graduate students across all GW schools and academic disciplines—emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration and inclusive participation at its core.
Mission:
To empower GW students to engage meaningfully in global and local humanitarian work through high-impact internships that support their academic, professional, and career growth.
Goals:
- Connect students with leading humanitarian organizations addressing urgent global challenges
- Strengthen students’ practical interdisciplinary capabilities through hands-on experience in key functional areas like research, policy, communications, logistics, and data analysis.
- Cultivate emerging leaders in the humanitarian sector through immersive experiences that promote professional growth, civic responsibility, and long-term impact
